A scientific conference dedicated to the poet, essayist, translator, victim of the tragic events of January 20, 1990, Ulvi Buniatzade, was held at the Baku Book Center on November 20.
Opening the conference, Director of the Baku Book Center Gunel Rzayeva said that Ulvi Buniatzade lived a short but bright life making big contribution to Azerbaijani literature.
Speaking at the conference, Philology Professor Almaz Ulvi thanked the Baku Book Center for support in organizing the event.
Conference participants - Academician Mukhtar Imanov, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, Philosophy Professor Kenul Buniatzade, Philology Professor Ismail Mammadli, poet Hanemir, Philology Professor Shahla Medzhidova, Associate Professor at the Ganja State University Afag Yusifli, Philology Professor Yashar Gasimbayli and others spoke about patriotic motives of U. Buniatzade’s books, the aesthetic and philosophical values of his literary heritage.
Ulvi Buniatzade was born in 1969 in the village of Kesaman, Basarkechar province. In addition to his native Azeri, he spoke English, Russian, Arabic, Persian, and Uzbek languages and knew Latin very well. Buniatzade was killed on the night of January 19-20, 1990 in Baku during the events of “Black January”, which ended with the death of more than a hundred civilians.
He is buried at the Alley of Martyrs. A street in Baku is named in his honor.
