A presentation of the book Jafargulu Khan Javanshir and the Arms Collection of the Karabakh Khans was held at the Baku Book Center on September 17. The publication was prepared under the academic editorship of Academician Nailya Velikhanli, Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan. The author of the book is Sabuhy Ahmadov, PhD in History and Associate Professor. The study draws on archival documents and historical artefacts preserved in Azerbaijan and Russia, as well as museum collections in Azerbaijan, Russia, and Georgia. Particular emphasis is placed on museum objects, which constitute valuable primary sources for studying the history of Azerbaijan in the 18th and 19th centuries. The book was published to commemorate the 160th anniversary of the death of Major General Jafargulu Khan Javanshir (1787–1866), grandson of Ibrahimkhalil Khan, Khan of Karabakh. Academician Nailya Velikhanli, Director of the National Museum of History of Azerbaijan, served as the book’s academic editor. In her remarks, she highlighted the importance of historical artefacts in reconstructing and understanding Azerbaijan’s past, and emphasised the scholarly significance of the publication, which is based on an extensive body of archival and museum materials. The event also featured a replica of a dagger that belonged to Jafargulu Khan Javanshir. The replica was crafted by master weaponsmith Jahangir Ahmadov. The author, Sabuhy Ahmadov, spoke about the life and career of Jafargulu Khan Javanshir, as well as new facts uncovered through his research. He also discussed the archival documents and museum artefacts that served as key sources for the publication. At the conclusion of the event, copies of the book were presented to the participants. The presentation formed part of broader efforts to advance the study, preservation, and promotion of Azerbaijan’s historical and cultural heritage.
