Book dedicated to memory of martyr Vusal Babayev presented in Baku

A book dedicated to the life and military service of Vusal Babayev, a senior lieutenant killed during Azerbaijan's 2020 Patriotic War, was presented at the Baku Book Center on 13 May. Titled "The Sacred Oath to Become a Martyr...," the publication chronicles Babayev's life, military career and wartime service. He was posthumously awarded the Azerbaijan Flag Order. The event was organised by the Editorial Office of the Republican Book of Memory under the Ministry of Culture in cooperation with the Baku Khabar newspaper as part of the project Martyrs Never Die, the Motherland Is Indivisible!, which aims to preserve the memory of those who died during the 44-day war. The book was written by Nazakat Mammadova, editor-in-chief of the Republican Book of Memory. According to Ms Mammadova, the idea for the publication was proposed by Babayev's wife, Aynur Babayeva. The presentation was moderated by journalist Jalya Hasanli. Opening remarks were delivered by Gunel Anargizi, director of the Baku Book Center. Among those addressing the audience were Azerbaijan Press Council Chairman Rashad Majid, members of parliament Jeyhun Mammadov and Aydin Mirzazade, People's Poet Vahid Aziz, Pirallahi District Deputy Executive Head Vezir Safikhanov, journalist and author Zemfira Maharramli, poet Rafael Taghizade, and cultural figure Latifa Mammadova. Speakers highlighted the importance of documenting the lives of those who died in the conflict and preserving their stories for future generations. The event also featured a musical programme with performances by mugham singer Vugar Aliyev, a lecturer at the Azerbaijan National Conservatory and soloist with the Opera and Ballet Theatre, and Rauf Jafarov, winner of the ninth Mugham Television Competition. They were accompanied by tar player Poldakhan Bakhshiyev and kamancha performer Farid Gadirov. The presentation concluded with a commemorative group photograph.
