Speaking at the event, Nigar Huseynova, a representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, highlighted the contributions of Azerbaijanis who fought alongside local populations in several European countries during World War II, including France, Poland, Italy, and the Netherlands. She stated that the heroism of compatriots such as Ahmadiya Jabrayilov, Mehdi Huseynzade, and Mammad Mammadov remains a symbol of courage, selflessness, and dedication to freedom.
“The participation of Azerbaijani partisans in the French Resistance Movement reflects the Azerbaijani people’s commitment to peace, liberty, and universal human values. They became symbols of the struggle for freedom, humanity, and justice,” Huseynova said.
The book’s author, French historian Alexandre Watin, described the publication as an important contribution to preserving historical memory. He noted that the book chronicles Jabrayilov’s military activities and offers readers a deeper understanding of his remarkable life and service.
French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Sophie Lagoutte praised Jabrayilov’s bravery and enduring legacy. “His courage, difficult life journey, and contribution to the partisan movement made him an unforgettable figure. Thanks to this book, even more people will learn about him,” she said. Lagoutte also recalled meeting members of Jabrayilov’s family during a visit to Sheki, noting their dedication to preserving his memory.
