Baku Book Center Hosts First Spring Seminar as Part of

On May 8, Associate Professor Agil Shirinov, Rector of the Azerbaijan Institute of Theology (AIT), led a seminar titled "Religious Tolerance in Azerbaijan" at the Baku Book Center. The event was part of the "Spring Seminars" series within the "YüksƏl" educational project and brought together students from Baku State University and Azerbaijan State Pedagogical University.
In his speech, Agil Shirinov highlighted Azerbaijan's long-standing tradition of peaceful coexistence among various religious and ethnic communities, describing it as one of the world’s exemplary models. He noted that the Azerbaijani model is characterized not only by stable intercultural relationships but also by harmony within Islam itself.
“Unfortunately, we are currently witnessing many conflicts between different Islamic movements across the world. Against this backdrop, Azerbaijan stands out as a model of peaceful coexistence. Despite the historical presence of followers from the two main Islamic schools, there has never been religious conflict in our country,” Shirinov said.
He also emphasized that people of different faiths in Azerbaijan live together peacefully and securely, without facing discrimination. The seminar took the form of an open dialogue, with students actively engaging in the discussion and asking questions. At the end of the event, participants received books as gifts from the Baku Book Center.
