A photo album titled “Journey to the Land of Fire” by Russian photographer Dmitri Yermakov, who lived in Georgia in the 19th century and visited Azerbaijan several times, was introduced at a book launch at the Baku Book Center on Jan. 25.
Culture and art workers, media representatives and delegation from Georgia attended the event.
Addressing the guests, director of the Baku Book Center Gunel Anargyzi said that such events make a great contribution to the development of friendly and good neighborly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia.
The project coordinator, director of the department for organizing events and exhibitions at the Heydar Aliyev Center, Amina Melikova, emphasized the importance of the publication and spoke about the idea of creating the album.
General Director of the National Museum of Georgia David Lordkipanidze and curator of the museum’s photo and video collection Sofia Ebralidze said that photographs from the archive of Dmitri Yermakov are stored in various European countries, but the largest archive is located in the National Museum of Georgia.
Legendary Georgian singer Nani Bregvadze, who was present at the ceremony as member of Georgian delegation, expressed her love for Azerbaijan with the following words: “I love the Azerbaijani people, their rich culture. I always notice the similarities between our peoples. I love mugham as much as I love Georgian folk music. Music unites us."
The photo album “Journey to the Land of Fire” was prepared with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation based on photographs of Dmitri Yermakov (1846 - 1916), taken in Azerbaijan. More than 260 unique photographs in the album cover the period from the late 1880s to the beginning of the 20th century.
