Baku history researcher Fuad Akhundov on March 2 held a second lecture at the Baku Book Center on the topic “Baku in the poems of Russian poets”. The lecture was organized as part of the second stage of YÜKSƏL educational project, implemented on the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Baku Book Center with financial support from BP Azerbaijan.
Students of the Baku State University, Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction, as well as representatives of the “Bir” student volunteer program attended the event.
In his speech Fuad Akhundov said that many Russian poets who visited Baku dedicated their poems to this city. The uniqueness of Baku suburbs, the rich culture of Azerbaijan, the traditions and hospitality of Azerbaijani people - all this was an inexhaustible source of inspiration for Russian poets.
In his lecture, the researcher dwelt on three Russian poets - S. Yesenin, V. Mayakovsky and A. Gorodnitsky, who were united by love for the Azerbaijani capital. He spoke about the history of “Persian Motives” by Yesenin, about Mayakovsky’s poem “Baku.The City of the Wind ...”, “Baku Notebook” by Alexander Gorodnitsky, the ties of Russian poets with representatives of the Azerbaijani intellectuals. At the end of the lecture, students were presented with books recommended by F. Akhundov.
