Baku Book Center hosts presentation for children on rational water use

On February 19 the Baku Book Center hosted a presentation on Kura Box, comics, and rational water use for school children. The books, issued in three languages: Azerbaijani, Georgian and English, will be distributed in the schools of Azerbaijan.
Supported by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, the event was organized as a result of cooperation between the UNDP-GEF Kura II Project, Arts Council Azerbaijan NGO as well as the Baku Book Center and children's music festival "Simurg".
The presentation was held by the Kura II project Regional Communications Manager Sona Guliyeva, who told the schoolchildren about the need for rational water use. She said that population growth, industrial and agricultural development are leading to a sharp increase in water demand. In recent decades, water shortages have been felt in many regions of the world. Decreased precipitation and other climatic changes have had a negative impact on the water level in rivers, including the Kura River.
The speaker said that these publication series are one way among others for the UNDP Kura II Project to raise awareness on sustainable water use across the Kura River basin.
Taking into consideration a cultural background of water consumption in countries across the Kura River basin, these books will cautiously and smoothly introduce innovative ways and new technology, challenging old in a modern world where water becomes more and more scarce and reaches fewer and fewer people around the globe.
Kura Box and Comics books are available in both digital and hard copy forms in Baku and will reach as many readers as possible to initiate a change on excessive water consumption deeply rooted in people’s minds. The event was followed by the concert of laureates of the Children's music festival “Simurg”. Then children were awarded certificates. All other components of the project could be found on the website  www.kura-river.org  in three languages.
