Young psychiatrist Orkhan Iskenderov on July 29 held a webinar as part of the educational project "YÜKSƏL".
The project is implemented at the initiative of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Baku Book Center under the sponsorship of BP.
During a webinar entitled "Why do people help each other?" Orxan Iskenderov focused on such issues as: "Why do we help others?", "Why do some people tend to help more and others less?", "How can you increase people's desire to help?" and others. The host of the webinar also spoke about the experience of the famous American professor - sociologist K. Daniel Batson and his hypothesis of "empathy-altruism".
He said that various psychologists offer a number of explanations for the principle of altruism, which is based on the desire for selfless concern for others.
Emphasizing the importance of empathy, which means understanding the emotional state of another person through sympathy, penetration into his subjective world, Orxan Iskenderov focused on such factors as character, gender, culture, religion and mood, which contribute to the formation of this feeling. He said that the process of providing help can be observed not only among people, but also among plants, animals and microorganisms, and awareness and compassion are necessary conditions for increasing the development of people's desire to help.
More than 100 people listened to the webinar through the ZOOM platform, including students of the Faculty of Psychology of the Baku State University, ADA University, Baku Slavic University, Azerbaijan Medical University, Baku branch of the Sechenov First Moscow State Medical University as well as representatives of the "Bir" program of the Ministry of Education.
The participants of the webinar can receive books recommended by Orxan Iskenderov at the Baku Book Center.
