Baku Book Center on Dec. 14 hosted an event dedicated to the prominent Azerbaijani poet and playwright of the early 20th century Huseyn Javid.
Huseyn Javid was one of the founders of progressive romanticism movement in Azerbaijani literature. He was arrested during the Stalin repression of the 1930s and sent into internal exile to Siberia.
Opening the event, director of the Baku Book Center, Gunel Rzayeva, said that Huseyn Javid devoted his short but bright life to his people, creating immortal works. She noted the significance of the event dedicated to the memory of Javid.
The host of the evening was the famous journalist Gunay Malikgizi.
People’s writer Elmira Akhundova in her speech pointed out that national leader of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev highly appreciated the personality and works of Huseyn Javid, and a mausoleum was erected over the poet’s grave in Nakhchivan upon his initiative.
Head of the group on the reburial of the body of Huseyn Javid Hamid Jafarov said that the reburial of the remains of the poet also became possible with the great support of Heydar Aliyev.
Pupils from various schools of Baku performed Huseyn Javid’s poems in English, German, French and Russian, while pupils of the theater department of the Art Gymnasium showed the scenes from the plays of Huseyn Javid “Sheikh Sanan” and “The Demon”.
The evening also featured musical part with performances of Honored Artist of Azerbaijan Nuriya Huseynova and Prof. Abbasgulu Najafzade and exhibition of 25 paintings by students of the Art Gymnasium.
Head of the Youth and Sports Department of the Narimanov district of Baku, Najaf Novruzov, presented diplomas to the young participants of the event.
