"Azerbaijan in foreign media" webinar held as part of "YÜKSƏL" project
05.08.2020

Journalist, researcher Aynur Bashirli on August 5 held a webinar titled "Azerbaijan in foreign media" as part of YÜKSƏL educational project for students and youth launched by Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Baku Book Center and funded by BP.

The webinar focused on the formation of the image of Azerbaijan in the foreign press. During the webinar Aynur Bashirli said that the media plays an important role in creating the image and enhancing the prestige of various countries. The messages sent by various media, as well as media framing, create the basis for certain portraits in the minds of people.

According to Bashirli “the most interesting thing is that after creating a portrait it is very difficult to change it later. Thus, the power of the media works just like the brush of an artist,” she said.

Aynur Bashirli said that after the independence of our country was restored, a certain image of Azerbaijan and the Azerbaijani people was formed in the foreign press. This image, which was created over the years on the basis of various materials, was taken as a basis, and all subsequent information and news about Azerbaijan are perceived by readers on the basis of this created image.

About 50 students from the Baku State University, the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Khazar University, ADA, Baku Slavic University, as well as representatives of the “Bir” student volunteer program of the Ministry of Education joined the seminar via the ZOOM platform. Participants of the webinar will be donated books recommended by Aynur Bashirli at the Baku Book Center.
