Miklos Radnoti’s book unveiled at Baku Book Center

Presentation of the collection of poems by famous Hungarian teacher and poet Miklos Radnoti “Mad Rain” in Azerbaijani took place at Baku Book Center on May 23 with the support of the Embassy of Hungary to Azerbaijan.

The book includes verses by Radnoti in the translation of the Azerbaijani poet, philosopher Rasim Muzaffarli and publicist, poet and translator Davud Nasib.

One of the greatest lyricists of the 20th century, Miklos Radnoti (1909-1944) died at the age of 35. After the Nazis occupied Hungary, the poet was deported to a labor camp in Yugoslavia in June 1944 and killed.

Speaking at the event, Secretary of the Embassy of Hungary in Azerbaijan on culture and education, Mihai Gruber, informed guests about the life and work of Radnoti and stressed the importance of expanding cultural ties between the two countries.

Poet and philosopher Rasim Muzaffarli, Hungarian turkologist, honorary member of the Writers' Union of Azerbaijan Maria Keneši, Director of the Central Scientific Library of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Leyla Imanova spoke about the translation of Miklos Radnoti’s works, about the Hungarian-Azerbaijani relations in science and culture.

Speakers emphasized that all the poetry of Miklos Radnoti is permeated with a premonition of impending universal horror and his own death, but at the same time filled with the courage of a man who, like the heroes of antiquity, is capable of maintaining dignity in any circumstances.

All proceeds from the sale of this book will go to “Nargis” fund.
