The Baku Book Center on March 5 marked the 160th anniversary of Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov, an outstanding educator who made invaluable contributions to the development of education and culture in Azerbaijan. The Technical Humanitarian Lyceum No. 2, named after Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov, organized the event, which was attended by famous intellectuals, scientists, and cultural figures. The event featured a video about the life, pedagogical, and educational activities of Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov. Misir Mardanov, Director of the Institute of Mathematics and Mechanics of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan (ANAS), Elbay Gasimzade, Chairman of the Board of the Union of Architects of Azerbaijan, Anar Iskenderov, Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee on Science and Education, Nureddin Mehdikhanli, National Actor, Narmina Huseynova, Head of the Baku City Education Department, Turana Majidli, Director of the Technical Humanitarian Lyceum No. 2, and Sharaf Jalilli, a researcher of Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov’s life and work and PhD in Philosophy, spoke at the event. They discussed the life and pedagogical activity of Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov, highlighted that his life and work have not only inspired his contemporaries but continue to inspire today’s generations. Eldar Azizov, a representative of the Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov family, also addressed the attendees. The speakers expressed gratitude to President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva for the work carried out to promote and popularize the legacy of Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov, who made an invaluable contribution to the development of Azerbaijani education and culture. Honored Artist Rza Afshar presented the lyceum staff with a portrait of Habib-bey Mahmudbeyov that he had created. To conclude, the event featured a short scene from the play “Hadji Gara” by Mirza Fatali Akhundzadeh and a classical music performance.
