A literary evening dedicated to French writer of Azerbaijani origin held at Baku Book Center

A literary evening dedicated to Banin, French writer of Azerbaijani origin and a prominent representative of Azerbaijani emigrant literature of the 20th century, was held on March 16 as part of the FantazEU Festival. The participants of the literary evening spoke about life and work of Banin, unveiled interesting facts from her biography. Cultural Counselor of the French Embassy in Azerbaijan Jerome Kelle, Azerbaijani poet Ulviya Akhundova, graduate of the École Normale Supérieure, Prof. Benoit Philo, French language specialist, Prof. Azelma Hasanova spoke about Banin's wonderful autobiographical novel "Caucasian Days", imbued with boundless love for Azerbaijan. In her book Banin recreates the history of the famous houses of Baku oil industrialists, the realities of that difficult era, and shares her childhood memories. At the end of the event, Baku history researcher Fuad Akhundov made an interesting presentation entitled “Banin, Ivan Bunin’s last love”, and director of the Baku Book Center Gunel Rzayeva read a short excerpt from the novel “Caucasian Days” to the music performed by pianist Vusal Aydemrov.
