Poet and writer Ilgar Fahmi speaks about the benefits of literature in stressful situations


The Baku Book Center on July 15 organized a webinar as part of YÜKSƏL educational project sponsored by BP.  A webinar dedicated to books helping to manage stress was conducted by the writer, poet Ilgar Fahmi.
 
Before the lecture, Ilgar Fahmi honored a memory of the Azerbaijani military who have been killed by Armenian armed troops on July 14 during the battles in Tovuz direction.
 
During the webinar Ilgar Fahmi spoke about the negative impact of the pandemic, as well as aggravated ethnic conflicts on people's moods, their mental and emotional health.
 
According to Ilgar Fahmi some people, facing with tragedy, pain, difficulties, try to "run away" from them, while others prefer to delve deeper into their pain, constantly communicate with people who have experienced such hardships.
 
Ilgar Fahmi emphasized the role of Azerbaijani and foreign fiction and scientific literature in overcoming difficulties.
 
Speaking about Ernest Hemingway's novel “The Old Man and the Sea”, Ilgar Fahmi said that this work has a philosophical meaning, allowing people to realize their true strength and courage.
 
Up to 60 students representing Baku State University, Azerbaijan Medical University, ADA, Khazar University, Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Baku Slavic University, Azerbaijan Technical University and other universities, as well as representatives of the student volunteer program "Bir" of the Ministry of Education, attended the webinar in ZOOM format. 
 
Participants of the lecture can receive books recommended by Ilgar Fahmi at the Baku Book Center after the end of the quarantine regime by presenting student ID.
