A seminar titled “Alzheimer's disease. Family Support” and presentation of brochure about the disease were held at the Baku Book Center May 14 with the assistance of “DAYAQ” patronage service.
Opening the event, PhD in philology, Nushaba Huseynli spoke about the features of the disease. The resuscitation doctor of the National Center of Oncology Narmin Azizova informed the guests about the goals and objectives of the “DAYAQ” service.
Head of the Department of Neurology at the Azerbaijan State Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education named after Aziz Aliyev, Prof. Rena Shiraliyeva, Head of the Department of Gender and Applied Psychology of the Baku State University Rena Ibrahimbekova told about the risk factors for dementia, as well as the main ways to prevent this one of the most common age-related deceases.
The speakers noted that the study estimated that in 2006, 0.40% of the world population (range 0.17–0.89%; absolute number 26.6 million, range 11.4–59.4 million) were afflicted by AD, and that the prevalence rate would triple and the absolute number would quadruple by 2050.
The event also featured a presentation on dementia and excerpts from the movies “Alien Time” and “Still Alice”, telling about people suffering from Alzheimer's disease. A brochure titled “Alzheimer's disease. Family Support” compiled with the support of “DAYAQ” patronage service can be purchased at the Baku Book Center.
