Is there any way to prove that you are human? Have you ever asked yourself this life-and-death question, which is faced by the Pygmies, “people the size of a fist”? Being the shortest humans in the world, they were one of the most oppressed African tribes: hunted and eaten like animals by other tribes and later brutally attacked by both natives and white invaders. Pygmies were kept in the cages of zoos in the early twentieth century as living exhibits, as “incompletely evolved humans.” The novel narrates the struggle of brave and fearless people trying to change the fate of a great continent, fighting against hidden and obvious enemies. Introducing the reader to the ancient cultures, beliefs, and legends of various African tribes, this work reveals a mysterious connection between man and nature, illuminating crucial questions on the meaning of life, creation, human psychology, and society.
