Baku Book Center hosts meeting with national writer Elchin

A meeting with the national writer of Azerbaijan, Honored Art Worker, literary critic and playwright Elchin was held at the Baku Book Center on October 16. The event was organized within the framework of the “Dialogue with the Writer” project and was attended by well-known literary and public figures, the writer’s friends, family members, and admirers of his work. Opening the meeting, renowned theater critic Maryam Alizade spoke about Elchin’s creative path, his innovative literary style, and his significant contribution to Azerbaijani literature and theatrical art. In his address, Elchin emphasized that the establishment of the Baku Book Center on the initiative of the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Mehriban Aliyeva, is a noble undertaking that will play an important role in restoring the prestige and social significance of books and reading. The writer also reflected on the special atmosphere that prevailed in Azerbaijani literature and art during the 1960s, describing it as an “artistic and aesthetic phenomenon,” and highlighted the profound influence of that era on the worldview of future generations. Elchin shared his views on literary criticism and spoke about the rehearsals of his new play, written in the genre of absurd, currently underway at the Samad Vurgun Russian Drama Theater. An engaging discussion followed, with the participation of literary critic Nizami Jafarov, national writer of Azerbaijan Elmira Akhundova, poet Salim Babullaoglu, and the writer’s readers and fans. The meeting took place in a warm and positive atmosphere. At the end of the event, Elchin signed copies of his books and took photos with attendees. The “Dialogue with the Writer” project of the Baku Book Center aims to organize meetings between renowned writers, journalists, publicists, and their readers, fostering dialogue and promoting a culture of reading.
